Joe Capobianco was the feature speaker at the meeting of Society of Financial Service Professionals held at the Nassau County Bar Association.
This involves actions in both state and federal courts, as well as arbitrations and other forms of mediation dispute forums. We represent individuals who have suffered losses as a result of the misdeeds of security brokers and stock brokerage firms in securities arbitration proceedings.
Another special area in our litigation group is environmental/hazardous waste lawsuits. Among our clients is the Long Island Power Authority for which we are outside special environmental counsel. Our experience in this area includes federal and state actions involving Superfund sites under the federal and state Superfund statutes. Other types of litigation handled by us, include: defamation and libel; professional malpractice; shareholder disputes; real estate disputes; license agreement and real estate lease breaches; replevin actions; secured lending disputes; non-compete covenant violations; Constitutional law (1st Amendment rights) and discrimination claims.
Our trial lawyers are frequently in the federal district courts in New York and, on occasion, appear in federal district courts outside of New York. We handle all appeals, whether before the State Appellate Division or the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals.
Among our recent litigation successes are:
i) achieving a $21.6 million judgment in a class-action lawsuit against a major company after a seven-year long battle culminating in summary judgment in favor of our clients;
ii) a recent securities arbitration proceeding in which we obtained a nearly half-million dollar award for an individual who suffered at the hands of a securities broker and a brokerage firm.
